How Cub Scouting Works
Cub Scouts is family oriented
· Activities are intended for the whole family.
· You work with your son on his advancement award requirements.
· Many skills he will learn are family oriented.
The Cub Scout Den
· Your son is a member of a Cub Scout Den.
· The Den meets twice a month on Tuesdays at Ferry Farm Baptist Church.
· The Den is led by a Den Leader (usually a parent).
· The Den Leader may have an Assistant Den Leader or a Den Chief (a Boy Scout helper).
· Den meetings have games, crafts, songs, skits, and lots of fun.
The Cub Scout Pack
· Your son is a member of Cub Scout Pack 197.
· The Pack meets once a month at a Pack meeting which all families attend.
· The Pack meeting is led by the Cubmaster.
· The Pack meeting is the highlight of the month's Den meetings and activities.
· The Pack meeting has games, songs, skits, ceremonies, and presentation of awards earned that
month.
The Pack Leadership
· The Pack is run by a group of Den Leaders, Cubmaster, Treasurer, Awards Chairman, and
Committee Chairperson.
· The Committee Chairperson runs the Committee.
· The Committee sets the calendar for the Pack's activities.
· The Committee selects leaders, performs record keeping, manages finances, orders badges,
maintains pack equipment, and helps train leaders.

The Charter Organization
· The Pack is “owned” by the Charter Organization, usually a religious group, service club, school
or parent organization interested in helping youth.
· Our Charter Organization is Ferry Farm Baptist Church. Membership in the charter organization
is NOT required for Pack membership.
· The Charter Organization approves leaders, provides meeting space and operates the Pack
according to its guidelines and the Boy Scouts of America.
· The Charter Organization selects a liaison to the Pack.
Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts
· The Cub Scouts are a part of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).
· BSA is divided into Councils; ours is the National Capital Area Council
(NCAC). http://www.ncacbsa.org/
· The council is divided into districts; ours is the Aquia District. http://www.ncacbsa.org/aquia/
