With the regular cuts in the city of DePere budget, the city parks department was not able to keep up with all the maintenance activities. Eagle Scout candidate Alex LaValley had grown up going regularly to one of those parks - Patriot Park. He felt a very personal connection to restoring the park for his project. The following picture gallery represents the transformation from before to after of the park. It included:
- Scrape, sand and re-stain the exterior of the pavilion
- Spread new wood chips on the entire playground area
- Mulch all trees in the park
- Dig out the surrounding ground and grass from the sandbox
- Paint the entire inside of the pavilion including the common room and bathrooms
- Sand and paint all the interior and exterior metal doors
- Scrape, sand and paint the park sign
- Remove an old tetherball pole
- Remove all the weeds from the parking lot and sidewalks
- Miscellaneous purchases such as new bathroom signs and a toilet seat
- Additional funds were used to purchase asphalt sealer to use on the basketball court in Spring
