What Is Girl Scouting?
It's All About Fun, Friends, and Fantastic Opportunities
Girl Scouting is for every girl, everywhere—where today's girls can become tomorrow's leaders. Membership in Girl Scouts is open to girls ages 5-17; women and men over 17 can join as adult members.
Most girls join a local troop or group for fun and friendship, but they also find out about building character and self-esteem and serving their communities—the core qualities of Girl Scouting. In Girl Scouts, girls find a safe place to grow and share new experiences, learn to relate to others, develop values, and contribute to society.
The Girl Scout program is based on the needs and interests of girls. All members:
- Share the Girl Scout Promise and Law
- Pay national dues of $20.00
- Follow safety guidelines
About the Girl Scout Program
The Girl Scout program is based on the needs and interests of girls. All members:
Ride a horse, climb a rock wall, defy peer pressure, design a robot, write a poem, clean up a neighborhood park, sleep with the sharks, defy conformity, job-shadow a successful businesswoman, meet your Girl Scout Cookie program goals, make a friend, challenge your mind, defy the stereotype, expand your world view, improve your community, defy the ordinary…
Girl Scouting is all this and so much more. It’s a Girl’s Life…Lead it!
Girl Scouts is the nation’s premier organization serving all girls in Kindergarten through high school! Our program provides you with opportunities to:
- Discover new things about yourself and your surroundings: Who are you today; who do you want to become?
- Connect to family, friends and your community: How have the people shaped who you are? How have you shaped them?
- Take Action to make the world a better place: How will you impact your community, your country, the world?
In a unique girl-only environment, Girl Scouts build courage, confidence and character all while having fun. There are many ways a girl can participate in Girl Scouts – we have a program that’s just right for you!
Troop/Group Leaders
Every Girl Scout belongs to a troop or group guided by leaders who are taught by certified trainers. Leaders partner with girls, giving them opportunities to make decisions about their activities and to learn leadership skills within the group.
